JRS Urban Refugee Project
January-June 2022

Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international humanitarian organization with a mission to serve, accompany, and advocate for displaced persons and refugees around the world. JRS has long held a presence in Kenya, with Nairobi serving as the regional headquarter for JRS East Africa. Services provided include vulnerability assessments, emergency assistance and provision of basic needs, referrals and resource connection, and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS).

ISWS volunteer recipient, Ms. Loryn Kezer will be based in Nairobi, working with the field staff of Dadaab refugee camp to review and improve tools used (for assessments, database management, etc.), to train staff in up-to-date trauma-informed care principles, and to amplify the clinical competence of counseling staff and the efficacy of counseling programs. She will also support JRS field staff working at the Kakuma refugee camp to provide the ever-increasing refugee population in Kenya with effective services.
